"Last Memorial Day, Ilona Lantos gave me a creative painting class. I came with a subject in mind. I was quite nervous, because I had not painted for a while, and I kept changing my painting subject. Ilona prepared all of the materials. I did not have to worry about what I was going to use so I could concentrate on painting my picture. She advised me to work with only two colors, and coached me as I painted. We selected red and blue for the color scheme, because it was memorial day. I knew how to wet a brush and how to dry it to achieve the desired weakness or strength of color. Ilona showed me some interesting new techniques. I learned how to splatter with alcohol and how to use a fan brush. In her other classes she taught me how to work with "brusho", glitter and words in painting. Adding the background, then finding  the image in the background  and developing the drawing, was a new approach for me. When the background was ready, I outlined a horse. Ilona coached me on developing the shapes with color. She guided me in the use of acrylic paint, a wonderfully flexible medium, and reminded me to constantly wet the paper, because acrylic dries very fast. The final painting was quite successful.  and you can see it here." -Carol Sparhawk
